18th NEC Forum in Cyprus:

The Cyprus National Bioethics Committee is organizing the 18th NEC Forum in Nicosia on the 4th and 5th of October 2012 with the participation of representatives from the Ethics Councils of EU member states. The meeting is under the auspices of the Cypriot EU Council Presidency. The main topics of the meeting will be: education and ethics, responsible research and innovation, data and ethics – including information technology access.


International Conferences:

European Group on Ethtics (EGE), the independent body which advises the European Commission on ethical aspects of science and new technologies, is currently working on an Opinion on the Ethics of Energy Mix. A roundtable will be organised by EGE on 18th September 2012 in Brussels in order to promote a transparent dialogue between relevant stakeholders. Expected participants are from a broad cross-section of European Society, including the scientific community, industry, civil society, policy-makers, media and the general public. The Round Table will also be broadcasted on the EGE website. Interested participants must confirm their participation before the 5th of September to the EGE Secretariat. The Centre for Biomedical Ethics and Law (of UK Leuven) is organising an intensive course on research and publishing in bioethics and medical humanities: "Publish or Perish. Intensive Course on Research and Publishing in the field of Bioethics" (Leuven, Belgium, 10-12 October 2012). The Division of Ethics and Global Change- Sector for Social and Human Sciences of UNESCO, organizes on the 12th-16th of November 2012 and on 19th-23rd of November in Lithuania and Namibia respectively an Ethics Teacher Training Course. This course is designed to advance pedagogical capacity for ethics teaching and improve the quality of ethics education around the world.
